Grants Will Fund Lake Champlain Basin Wetland Restoration
Ducks Unlimited is pleased to announce that it has been awarded two additional grants totaling over $100,000 to continue its work promoting, developing, and implementing wetland restoration projects in Vermont's Lake Champlain Basin.

Senate committee votes to cut funding for farm conservation programs
During a recent hearing, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to cut farm conservation programs by $726 million for the 2012 fiscal year, which represents a 12 percent reduction from the FY 2011 funding level. Funding reductions of this magnitude will greatly inhibit our nation's ability to preserve native grasslands and other prime waterfowl habitat.

NRCS, DU Launch Wetland Conservation Partnership in Iowa
The Natural Resources Conservation Service and Ducks Unlimited this spring signed a $1.5-million cooperative agreement to coordinate and deliver the Wetlands Reserve Program in Iowa.

California Landowners Enroll 100,000 Acres in WRP
The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) recently reported that California farmers and ranchers have now enrolled more than 100,000 acres in the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP).

Record Year for Wetlands Reserve Program
Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced in December that the nation’s farmers, ranchers, and Native American tribes enrolled more than 272,000 acres in the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) during fiscal year 2010, the highest single-year enrollment since the program began in 1990. More than 2.3 million acres are currently enrolled in WRP nationwide.

The continental United States has already lost more than 50 percent of its wetlands and continues to lose these habitats at an alarming rate. One of the most successful federal conservation programs is the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP), which provides a voluntary, non-regulatory, incentive-based way for private landowners, farmers, and ranchers to protect and restore wetlands on their property.
