Yamialikowski Wetland Restoration Project- Eastern Pennsylvania

The Floyd Yamialkowski farm, located in northwestern Wayne County, PA has pastured their dairy cows in this 21-acre scrub shrub wetland for over 50 years.  Through the Habitat Stewardship Program, Ducks Unlimited was able to restore this wetland by implementing 6,000 feet of cattle exclusionary fence and constructing a 500-foot low earthen berm.   This wetland now provides nesting and migratory habitat for several waterfowl species.

Rowe Brothers

Rowe Brothers farm has been in existence since 1889. The family operated dairy is located in Wayne County Pennsylvania. The Rowe farm consists of 88 milking cows on 463 acres of which more than 300 are planted in a corn-hay rotation. Over the past two years the Rowes have worked with Ducks Unlimited in restoring water quality and wildlife habitat on the property. The projects consisted of fencing livestock out of a 10-acre riparian wetland and restoring hydrology to a winter livestock area. Ducks Unlimited would like to thank the Rowe Brothers farm for their commitment to restoring wildlife and water quality.

Amy &Brian Smith

The Smith farm located in Northeastern Wayne County and has been in operation since 1993. The Smiths focus on managing cool and warm season grasses to supply forage for their 56 animal dairy herd. Brian and Amy graciously fenced out 5.5 acres of wetland that created a functional wildlife buffer. This buffer is located on a key headwater stream that leads directly to the Delaware River. Ducks Unlimited would like to thank the Smith family, Amy and Brian and their children Chelsea, Jesse, Leslie, Wyman, Shelby and Clarence for their interest in conservation and their willingness to educate other cooperators during our farm tours in the Wayne County area.

In Wayne County, restoration of a prior converted wetland occurred on the Soden Farm through a partnership between Ducks Unlimited and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. A water control structure was installed to assist the landowner in managing water levels and restoring the wetland for waterfowl.
