1100 is a great gun and plenty capable for waterfowl, just keep it clean and make sure that the O-ring stays in good shape.

No need to change the gun just start hunting and you should be golden with that.

If its an old, fixed, full choke, you shouldn't use steel shot in it.

NJ217bands (11/19/2012) If its an old, fixed, full choke, you shouldn't use steel shot in it.
With modern shotcups that protect the barrel from steel pellets scoring the inside of the barrel, steel shot is FINE...so long as he shoots #4s or smaller shot IF it is a fully choked barrel.

When steel shot became mandatory many years ago, at the end of the season, a dime fit inside the end of my Remington 1100 full choke barrel. Before the season began, a dime would not fit inside the choke. I don't use steel shot anymore.

I have a buddy who shot an 1100 for his first 2 or 3 seasons to great success. I believe he shot 3's and 4's.
